We have been stymied by customers who don't control their networks (you know who you are) inability to use their networks. We have used OpenVPN on Linux, Windows Server 2003 and OpenBSD to provide ad-hoc links for remote workers, IT consultants and off-site activities.

This works well when you can't setup permanent links over an IPSEC tunnel since you can't get on the routers at the border between their network and the Internet.
